Biography :
Dr. Abdel Ghaly (male) is a professor of Biological and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Ghaly obtained B.Eng (1969) and MSc (1973) from Alexandria University (Egypt) and Ph.D (1982) from McGill University (Canada). He worked as a lecturer at Alexandria University (Egypt) (1973-1974), Graduate Assistant/Special Lecturer at McGill University (Canada) (1975-1979), Assistant Professor and Head of Departmental at University of Zambia (Zambia) (1979-1982) and Professor, Director of International Program and Director of Graduate Program at Dalhousie University (Canada) since 1982. He was a Visiting Professor at University of Guyana (Guyana), University of Trinidad (West Indies), Cairo University (Egypt), University of Sierra Leone (Sierra Leone), University of Bogor (Indonesia), University of Oriente (Cuba), University of Sana’a (Yemen), University of Agriculture (Slovak Republic) and King Saud University (Saudi Arabia). Professor Ghaly specializes in the areas of environmental engineering (including waste characterization, management and utilization, remediation of contaminated air, water and soil, environmental assessment and development of environmental technology), energy (including characterization of biomass, size reduction, production of biogas, bioethanol and biodiesel, modeling and development of energy technology) and biotechnology (including production of high value molecules such as nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals from waste materials, kinetic studies, process control and development of fermentation technology). He established and directed several large international projects in developing courtiers (Zambia, Egypt, Nigeria, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Thailand and Sierra Leone). He evaluated governmental policies and provided consulting services to several countries. He provided 47 distinguished lectures and 37 scientific interviews to TV, radio and newspaper around the world. Professor Ghaly has published 180 referred journal paper, 48 papers in conference proceedings and presented 230 conference papers. He trained 65 Graduate Students, 37 Postdoctoral Fellows and employed 7 Scientists, 8 Technicians and 55 Co-op Students. He is a member of 13 technical societies and 14 international organization, served as editor for 12 journals, organized 11 conferences and chaired 31 sessions. Professor Ghaly has received over 22 international awards in recognition of his outstanding contribution to teaching and research worldwide and has been made a fellow of the Canadian Society of Biological Engineering and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
